Perspective

Now let us all take a breath and enjoy not only the greatness of those around us but let us recognize and appreciate our own personal greatness.

To be, or, not to be that is the question, (William Shakespear.)  To be faithful, understanding, loving and kind.  To exhibit positive traits such as trustworthiness, dedication the ability to be aware of all things yet have the discernment not to act or speak on them without consideration.  To love for the sake of loving, forgive because of that love and embrace the moments we share with gusto.  A good listener, playful when needed, solemn when necessary and always there to share, (even if it is with a perplexed look.)  Ready at a moments notice to see the good or bring it out even when we don’t see it in ourselves.  These are qualities our dogs share with us, without question, they are a constant example of how to live happy healthy lives and also an example of the best of what we need to be sharing in an relationship.

What if God gave us Dog so when we spell it backwards we are reminded of God?

As we walk along life’s fields and pathways we sometimes forget that we are surrounded by beauty.

The reason, maybe a lack of patience, direction, observation or the atypical must have more attitude which chains us to a false socioeconomic belief.  We are trained by media and the sales pitch from a young age that we must be consumers and and worse yet is that if something doesn’t work the way we want it to, “broken or not,” it’s okay to get rid of it.   Unfortunately that sentiment doesn’t just apply to objects, it applies to the people in our lives also.  Since we don’t fix anything any more it make it okay to through it or them away and get a new one.  Our relationships seem to slip into the arena of toilet paper, something softer to cushion the tushion then get rid of it in a way that no one notices so we may buffer our emotional and social woes without reflexive action from our peers.

With our heads in the societal roll we see only the illusion, however, with a  single breath we can slow the heart, entrain the mind and change destiny.  With a breath of intention we can create joy and willfully see the beauty around us and with devotion we can experience internally as well as externally that same beauty.  Then peace like a river flows free.

It’s Fathers day and I find myself uniquely without words to describe such an occasion.  Perhaps it is best to stick to simplicity, but I am a single parent and  have been both father and mother for so long that I sometimes forget to celebrate the difference.   Every day is Fathers Day to me.  I’m a father everyday so how can it be otherwise.  There are always challenges to be faced and certainly we have lived through our fair share of excitement but I find each day to be a transition in growth, joy and love.  The times that are truly charged with angst are generally when one or more of us forget to be thankful for life and get caught up in doing just for doings sake.

So maybe the message internal or not is to remember to be thankful everyday and appreciate the greatness of those around us.

Becoming a father was special, everyday I get to experience my children is special, so everyday for me is Fathers Day.  May you find your inner Fathers-Mothers Day too.

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is expand instead of contract.  Life is always life.  Every day is a blessing filled with unique opportunities and lessons.  Quality of life quite often comes out of our willingness to step aside and let ourselves win.  Guiding without having to control the nuance of each moment may be difficult but the rewards are liberating and life fulfilling.

My your each step take you down the path which honors you best.

If someone were to ask me what I love about art I would say doing it of course.

Not a very good sentence, the but true none the less.  I find each of  the mediums I work with to give me a different form of serenity, like active meditation.

My problem is that cataloging and naming the work is not quite as fun as letting an abstract form itself, whatever medium it may be in.

Then there’s the writing.  I have three childrens books that I recently finished front to back including illustrations.  However, that still leaves finishing the novel which is the basis for the three finished childrens books and the thirteen other childrens books in the series which while written still have to finished being illustrated.

Some how while doing that I have to prepare for the July second art show I’m doing which is to be a combination of oil, charcoal and water color combo absrtacts and still find time to work with other projects like creating more art and new writing, well and yes, play with my children.

Of the things I do the time with my children is my most important, at least to me any way, however, people seem to frown on that.  While I’m busy doing these other things I am secretly hoping that they are learning through some sort of example how to treat each other and the world, how important family and dedication are, how important it is to do what you love, do it with gusto and do it well, the importance of community investment, being structured and its importance, how to give and receive, the art of learning and education, and well I think you get the point.

Is it possible to really do all of this?  I wonder.

When we are young we are encouraged to explore both our imagination and environment.  I remember squealing with delight as my sisters and I spun in circles till we had that launching experience you get when you spin like a Whirling Dervish.  From that we would laugh hysterically and  fly to the ground, “having what felt like an out of body experience,” and enjoy watching everything fly by like Dorothy in the Wizard Of Oz-minus the dress.  Not everything was carefree but each moment was an adventure in living each moment and any situation represented another great adventure or possible mixture of laughter and fun.  Life was abstract and surreal and there was nothing that we couldn’t accomplish.   As a matter a fact one of the most consistent statements I remember hearing was, “you can be, do or create  anything you desire.”

For some reason as we got older the very people who once encouraged us to do the seemingly impossible forget that they taught us the magic of life.   They then tell us that we need to fit in and set aside the very things they told us were what made us unique and in fact are needed to be spontaneous and creative.  Latter we become productive adults and follow the world into money, lengthy hours, acid reflex and migraines.  But is it really necessary?  A friend of mine was recently discussing the demise of the daring, intuition and the creative process that came with the innocence of youth and was obliquely eaten by the process of growing up.  As we mused over the disappearance of our childhood talents relived were the tender memories of childhood adventures, the importance of instinct, and water color painting, his favorite medium for art.  We talked about his experience with dowsing and the fact that for adults to do dowse they have to be like children, open, without fear and in tune with their surroundings.

Perhaps it is best then to remember that the qualities we seek out in others are quite often the ones we believe to be gone from our youth.  You see the ability to trust, play, laugh, sing, be spontaneous, be jovial, Intuit, be creative and truly truly love are all aspects of us from our childhood.  So maybe we didn’t lose those nature given talents but on one hand developed them and on the other hand misplaced them from view of our conscience use.  Perhaps then the challenge for us as adults is to return our nature driven talents to conscious purposeful use.

Remember, from the point of Physics, ‘energy can not be destroyed, only transformed.  Kind of like a butterfly.
